Never before screened in the U.S., ICFS presents two tales that Argento created for Italian TV between two of his early masterpieces, 1970’s “Bird With The Crystal Plummage” and 1975’s “Deep Red.” Intended to test the limits of TV violence, both episodes succeeded in stirring up considerable outrage, while also cementing Argento’s reputation as a filmmaker of dark and horrific material.
In an episode titled “The Tram,” a young woman gets murdered on a crowded public train without anyone noticing the crime. Carefully recreating the incident, a police inspector attempts to uncover the killer’s identity. In “Eyewitness,” a woman discovers a corpse while driving down a remote country road late at night. Leaving to fetch the police, the corpse vanishes before they return. Is she insane? Or might someone by trying to drive her crazy? Combined running time: 110 minutes. Not Rated.
