SUMMER OF SOUL (2021)

Held over multiple weekends during the same summer as Woodstock, the Harlem Cultural Festival drew more than 300,000 people to celebrate African American music, culture, pride, and unity. Despite its significance, the footage remained unseen in a basement for over 50 years until Questlove brought it to light in this powerful documentary. The film features performances by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Mahalia Jackson, B.B. King, The 5th Dimension, Max Roach, The Staples Singers, the Chambers Brothers, and more. Rated PG-13. 118 minutes.
