In celebration of the New Year, we’ll quietly explore a woodland in the Town of Clifton Park on this late afternoon and twilight walk. We will listen for calls of the year-round songbird residents and hopefully the courtship calls of Great Horned Owls. We’ll also look to identify those animals whose tracks we come across to learn who else takes up residence here. Throughout our hike, we’ll identify some plants in their winter slumber. Please bring along your headlamp (preferably with green or red light) or flashlight (with red or green lightbulb or red- or green-colored filter over its lens); we’ll likely need it near the end of the latter half of this walk. The number of participants will be limited to only a few to help ensure that each of you enjoys this unique stop-look-listen outing.

Please wear proper footwear for ice/snow.

Weather cancellation: This event will be cancelled if any of the following is occurring or is forecast for this destination at that time:

  • moderate or heavy snow (i.e., more than flurries or snow showers),
  • gusty or sustained winds (i.e., treetops are noticeably swaying back and forth),
  • rain, freezing rain or sleet, or
  • air temperature <10°F.
