HERE COMES THE SUN (DOO, DOO, DOO, DOO)
We are pleased to announce Cycling Out Of Sumner (COOS) will be running as a spring training series for 2017.
COOS runs for thirteen Saturdays, from April 8th through July 8th (except June 10th, which is the day of Cascade's Flying Wheels event ride). The purpose of COOS is to have fun while building endurance and strength and to learn essential safe group riding skills. The rides will incrementally increase in distance, leading up to a century. Along the way, we will enjoy the simple pleasures of riding and meeting new friends. Paces are listed above. All paces will use a common route each week.
THIS WEEK'S RIDE:
For ride #2, let’s get the legs working by adding some hills. We will do a 6-mile flat warm up before tackling Sumner Heights Dr. This is an approximately 1 mile climb up into the Edgewood area with 5% - 7% grade (per Ride with GPS). From there we have a few rollers and a .5 mile climb as we make our way over toward Wild Waves. Then it’s a fun downhill and a mostly flat return to Sumner. CANCEL Rivers Edge stop...Starbucks in Fred Meyer parking lot on the way back as we enter Sumner we will stop at the Rivers Edge Cafe’ for coffee and a sandwich. Optional bathroom stop at mile 14.6, 5 mile park.
Please register for this ride by creating a free Cascade Bike club (see Create a Cascade account link below) account. This will allow you to pre-sign the waiver for each posted ride by clicking on “Register Now”. On-line registration closes two hours prior to ride time, and if you decide to ride after that we will have a waiver sheet for you to sign manually. Registration is not mandatory but it allows us to print the rider list beforehand and helps us save time at the ride start.
If you are a new rider, we are very happy to have you with us. Please read the New Rider link, below, and keep in mind that a helmet is required on all Cascade rides. Also, riders should be able to sustain the pace, carry nutrition/water, and have the know-how and equipment to fix a flat tire. Everyone should carry a phone to call for assistance if needed. We will regroup after climbs and at major intersections.
Arrive at least 30 minutes early so that you can get yourself ready, sign the waiver, and listen to the S.M.A.R.T. briefing. This allows us to have an on-time departure.
Be considerate and have full fenders including mud flaps if roads are wet or a prediction of rain is in the forecast.
A route map and cue sheet are at the Ride With GPS link, below. If you want a cue sheet please print and bring it. The ride leader will not have extra copies.
Cancellation Policy: If needed, a weather cancellation will be posted two hours prior in the Comments section, below, and the ride leader will not be at the start. Please check here or on the Cascade site before leaving for the ride.
Ride Leader Mentoring is available, contact the Ride Director prior to the ride.
