Northwest Seattle History Ride (Leisurely 10-12 mph, 16.1 miles, 1209')

Details

Ride Description:
This will be a history ride to visit and learn facts about various historic and interesting sites around the parts of northwest Seattle. We will meet at the Commodore Park parking lot (3330 W Commodore Way, Seattle, WA 98199). Parking can be found in the parking lot and nearby street. Multiple bus lines serve the area.

We will first head through the Ballard Locks before heading north to Loyal Heights and Golden Gardens for a restroom stop. After that, we will ride on the Burke-Gilman Trail into historic Ballard. Later, we will cross the Ballard Bridge to Fishermen’s Terminal before heading to Discovery Park. We will visit the historic fort, lighthouse, and cultural center before leaving and going back to the start. There are a total of 12 stops on this ride during which the ride leader will give a few details about the history/geography/etc.

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to ride start (i.e. arrive at 8:30). Please sign the electronic waiver by creating a free account on the Cascade website. Please bring basic tools (extra tubes, patch kit, etc.) as well as water and snacks, as it may be warm that day. Have a back-up plan in case you are unable to finish (friend/family who can pick you up, ORCA card to use public transit).

Cancellations: In the event of a weather cancellation, a notice will be posted in the comments on this page at least two hours before the ride, and the ride leader will not be at the ride start location. Cue sheets will not be provided, please print one if desired. Restrooms: there are restrooms at Golden Gardens Park (mile 3.6), Fishermen’s Terminal (mile 9.0), and Discovery Park (mile 13.8).

E-bikes: This is an e-bike-friendly ride for those with Class 1 or Class 2 e-bikes (Class 3 e-bikes are not allowed because we will be riding on some trails). See the Cascade Ebike FAQ’s link for more information. Be sure to have your battery/power pack fully charged before you arrive for the ride.
