South Seattle Bike Tour (Leisurely 10-12 mph, 28.4 miles, 1387')

Details

This will be a fun exploration ride through many of South Seattle’s neighborhoods. We will meet at the Jefferson Community Center (3801 Beacon Ave S, Seattle, WA 98108). Parking can be found in the adjacent parking lot. Transit access to the community center includes King County Metro Bus route 36 or light rail from the Beacon Hill station (less than a mile away).

We will first head through Beacon Hill onto part of the I-90 Trail and the Beacon Hill Neighborhood Greenway before descending into Georgetown and South Park while crossing the Duwamish River twice. After that, we will head into SODO and see some of its many murals before going briefly into the International District onto Dearborn St. After a quick bathroom/water break in Judkins Park, we will head onto the Rainier Valley N-S Neighborhood Greenway and check out the new Wilson Ave PBL’s. Finally, we will head onto the Chief Sealth Trail to return to the start on Beacon Hill. We will stop at a few interesting local sites along the route and go out to lunch after the ride.

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to ride start (i.e. arrive at 9:30). Please sign the electronic waiver by creating a free account on the Cascade website. Please bring basic tools (extra tubes, patch kit, etc.) as well as water and snacks, as it may be warm that day. Have a back-up plan in case you are unable to finish (friend/family who can pick you up, ORCA card to use public transit).

You are encouraged to pre-register for the ride through the Cascade site (see Waiver link below).

Cancellations: In the event of a weather cancellation, a notice will be posted in the comments on this page at least two hours before the ride, and the ride leader will not be at the ride start location. Cue sheets will not be provided, please print one if desired. Restrooms: there are restrooms at Jefferson Park (start/finish), Judkins Park (mile 16.6), and Genesee Park (mile 19.9).

E-bikes: This is an e-bike-friendly ride for those with Class 1 or Class 2 e-bikes (Class 3 e-bikes are not allowed because we will be riding on some trails). See the Cascade Ebike FAQ’s link for more information. Be sure to have your battery/power pack fully charged before you arrive for the ride.
