Beacon Hill History Ride (Leisurely 10-12 mph, 16.0 miles, 1034')

Details

This will be a history ride to visit and learn facts about various historic and interesting sites around parts of Seattle’s Beacon Hill. We will meet at the Jefferson Community Center (3801 Beacon Ave S, Seattle, WA 98108). Parking can be found in the adjacent parking lot. Transit access to the community center includes King County Metro Bus route 36 or light rail from the Beacon Hill station (less than a mile away).

We will first head north to various sites in North Beacon Hill up to the Pacific Medical Center before taking a restroom stop at Jose Rizal Park. Next, we will head south along the east side of Beacon Hill to get to Cleveland High School. After that, we will go to Comet Lodge Cemetery and ride all the way to the south end of Beacon Hill before heading north using the Chief Sealth Trail and back to the start. There are a total of 17 stops on this ride during which the ride leader will give a few details about the history/geography/etc.

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to ride start (i.e. arrive at 8:30). Please sign the electronic waiver by creating a free account on the Cascade website. Please bring basic tools (extra tubes, patch kit, etc.) as well as water and snacks, as it may be warm that day. Have a back-up plan in case you are unable to finish (friend/family who can pick you up, ORCA card to use public transit).

You are encouraged to pre-register using the Cascade link. There is no need to unregister if you decide not to ride.

Cancellations: In the event of a weather cancellation, a notice will be posted in the comments on this page at least two hours before the ride, and the ride leader will not be at the ride start location. Cue sheets will not be provided, please print one if desired. Restrooms: there are restrooms at Jefferson Park (start/finish), Jose Rizal Park (mile 2.4), and Benefit Playground (mile 10.8).

E-bikes: This is an e-bike-friendly ride for those with Class 1 or Class 2 e-bikes (Class 3 e-bikes are not allowed because we will be riding on some trails). See the Cascade Ebike FAQ’s link for more information. Be sure to have your battery/power pack fully charged before you arrive for the ride.
