February Meeting: Italo Calvino - The Complete Cosmicomics
Details
Recommended Stories:
(this month we're going with 7 as these stories are only 6-12 pages each. As usual, read as much or as little as you'd like)
- The Distance of the Moon
- All at One Point
- The Aquatic Uncle
- The Spiral
- The Soft Moon
- The Night Driver
- The Count of Monte Cristo
We had a great time reading Invisible Cities, and we're really excited to dive into this equally odd but (we hope) equally interesting and charming collection of stories from Calvino. The first 4 are from the original Cosmicomics and the next 3 are from the sequel Time and the Hunter, we're doing both since by far the most common English translation is the complete set.
For First-Timers: We recommend reading at least one story in the collection, but feel free to read as little or as much as you'd like! Discussion is open, informal, and covers the whole collection, but we try to focus on the recommended stories listed above.
About the collection:
The Complete Cosmicomics is Italo Calvino’s kaleidoscopic masterpiece, reimagining the birth and evolution of the universe through the eyes of the protean narrator, Qfwfq. Playful, cerebral, and deeply imaginative, these stories translate cold scientific principles—from orbital mechanics to cellular division—into poignant domestic dramas that explore the persistence of memory, the anxiety of progress, and the mathematical logic of the human heart.
