Biking the Western Panhandle Trail

Details

Join your fellow CAC biking and outdoor enthusiasts for a bicycle cruise that will take us westward toward Burgettstown and the West Virginia state line. We will explore Washington County’s Panhandle Trail, a main offshoot of the Montour Trail, along its westward leading path through open countryside, beginning at McDonald, PA. Riders will find this very rural Washington County stretch of Panhandle Trail a smoother, cleaner and more relaxing change from many other courses. It is asphalt-paved almost from beginning to end!! The small community of Joffre (7.4 miles from McDonald) will be our official destination and turnaround point before we return to McDonald, completing an almost 15-mile round trip.

CHALLENGE RATING: Because of a long, slight, but steady upgrade (roughly 1.6%) before the course’s mid-point, this ride is rated easy to moderate.

Bring Your Own Bike! Sorry, bike rentals are not available at this ride location. After our ride we will discuss our adventure over a leisurely dinner at a preferred west suburbs dining spot.

Please note the 12:30 PM start time for this ride. We will meet at the parking area of the McDonald, PA trail access adjacent to the McDonald Trail Station / Meeting House and History Center, 151 S. McDonald St., McDonald 15057. Route 980 South (off Route 22/30) leads directly into the town of McDonald and to our trail access, making a right turn onto S. McDonald Street.

No advance reservations are needed for this ride, but questions can be directed to Ivan: Call or text 865-278-8679 (mobile) or email ivanxd1@yahoo.com.

** NOTE: There will be more people in attendance than have RSVP'd on Meetup **
