Bike the Hoodlebug Trail

Details

Join us on another scenic bike ride as we travel east to Indiana County and visit a new and unexplored part of the Trans-Allegheny Trail Network. We will ride the Hoodlebug Trail, a 10-plus-mile course that follows a northern path from Blairsville to Indiana, PA. Hoodlebug Trail is named for the old self-propelled motor coach that traveled the Indiana branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad line in the early 20th Century. It comes with a diverse range of wooded and small-town landscapes. This trail is often screened by woodlands, and follows Two Lick Creek for much of its course.

The trail is not considered hilly, but does have a few grades slightly steeper than other rail-trails we have visited. We will begin at John P. Saylor Memorial Park in the outskirts of Blairsville (Black Lick) where there is a fairly large parking area (Saylor Park, 1284 Old Indiana Road Blairsville (Black Lick) 15716). Hoodlebug Trail starts a short 100 to 150 ft. past the parking area. Then, the trail itself begins with an uphill portion of 75-80 ft. before reaching the main part of the trail.

Many prefer to walk their bikes along this initial grade. Hoodlebug Trail is paved with smooth asphalt for almost its entire length. Our official destination and “return point” will be Rose and South 13th St., Indiana, PA.

Challenge rating: This trail is rated easy to moderately challenging. We will relax over dinner and reflect on our adventure at a local Indiana County dining spot after our ride.

As usual, no reservations are required for this ride, but inquiries can be made to Ivan: Call or text 865-278-8679 (mobile).

** NOTE: There will be more people in attendance than have RSVP'd on Meetup **
