Bike on the Great Allegheny Passage

Details

Join us for September’s first of two bike rides as we return to our familiar and much loved Youghiogheny River and Great Allegheny Passage, but this time a slightly different segment with a different starting point. We will begin at West Newton (where bicycle rentals are available) and embark first on a northward trek to Sutersville, our popular destination for Big Twist ice cream treats. Then we will head back south, passing through West Newton, to the Smithton Trail Access (5.6 miles from West Newton), where we will turn around and return to West Newton, completing a full north-south – north-again loop of just under 20 miles.

By this time our ice cream refreshment will have been worked off and we will enjoy a full lunch-dinner at the TrailSide Café and Tavern, located right at our West Newton Trail Access in the same building as the West Newton Bicycle Shop! (Address shown above.) Outdoor dining is available at the TrailSide Café. This serene, partly forested segment of the Great Allegheny Passage has a crushed limestone surface.

Challenge Rating: This ride is rated EASY and very pleasurable.

BIKE RENTALS ARE AVAILABLE at the West Newton Bicycle Shop. Only regular coaster/cruiser bikes are available for rental. Rentals are $9 per hour or $30 for full day, or you can bring your own bike for free. Advanced reservations are not needed, but inquiries can be made to Ivan by calling or texting 865- 278-8679 (mobile), or email ivanxd1@yahoo.com .

** NOTE: There may be more people in attendance than have RSVP'd on Meetup **
