Bike the Eliza Furnace Trail

Details
It’s back to the city for our second September biking event. On September 21st we will revisit a popular 16- mile urban Pittsburgh ride that stretches a segment of the Monongahela River and follows part of the Great Allegheny Passage.
We’ll start with the Eliza Furnace Trail (aka the “Jail Trail”) which follows the riverfront land once home to J & L Steel’s Eliza blast furnaces, then cross the Hot Metal Bridge and continue east toward Homestead’s Waterfront, our destination. On our return, we’ll follow the riverfront trail all the way back to South Side before crossing back to town, completing a 16-mile city loop.
After our ride, we will select a Downtown or South Side dining spot to discuss our adventure. We’ll meet at the Golden Triangle Bike Rentals (address above) located just off 1st Avenue downtown between PNC’s First Side glass office building and the Allegheny County Jail. To get there from 1st Ave., walk down the short lane alongside the T Station and parking garage.
PARKING: The Pittsburgh Parking Authority Garage – located right next to Golden Triangle Bike Rental charges a $6 full day flat rate on evenings and weekends. A comparable rate can be found at the Pittsburgh Parking Authority lots that stretch along the trail, east of the jail building. These are accessible from Second Avenue. You can walk from these lots along the bike trail to the bike rental. Golden Triangle Bike Rental’s rates are $10 per hour or $30 for a full-day rate. No reservations are needed for this event, but inquiries can be made to Ivan: Call or text 865-278- 8679 (mobile) or email ivanxd1@yahoo.com.
Challenge rating: Except for a few uphill ramps and bridge accesses, this trail earns an “Easy” rating.
** NOTE: There will be more people in attendance than have RSVP'd on Meetup **
