About us
The purpose of a drum circle is to give participants an in the moment experience of their own rhythmic spirit and power. If you have never experienced "the moment" join us for our next Drum Circle Meetup! The Central Florida Drum Circle Meetup exists to promote and connect people of all ages, religions, cultures and walks of life to the various rhythm and sound healing events taking place in and around Central Florida. If you know about a local drum circle event not listed on our calendar, contact the organizers so we can work with you to inform the community about new opportunities.
This group is sponsored and supported by Mark DeMaio owner of both Caravan Learning (local hybrid school and tutoring center) and 3rd Wheel dot Org (drumming and storytelling for any age), Sean Richards owner of OakenFire Rhythms (local full service drum shop), Daniel Koenigkann owner of Living Vitalitea (local kombucha brewery), Heather Chaney a community organizer galore (and more) Suzanne Garand a Frame Drum teacher and master baker, Ross Blanco a veteran drummer and leader, and Mark Mulligan a drum circle and community elder. We are here to help people rediscover and explore the deep relationship with the rhythmic universe that permeates every aspect of our lives. For those that have already made this profound discovery, WELCOME!

## Meet Your Main Instructor
## Mark DeMaio
I've been immersed in the world of hand percussion for more than two decades, studying rhythms, traditions, and community music-making from around the globe. Throughout my journey, I've had the privilege of learning from internationally respected teachers including Wolf Murphy, Buddy Helm, Thobos Lubamba, Kasa Panzu, Hossam Ramzy, Mamady Keïta, and many others whose generosity has shaped both my musicianship and my approach to teaching.
My training includes certification in Remo HealthRhythms® and Pound Pro, and I was honored to contribute as an editor to the Encyclopedia of World Rhythms. I also served as Orlando's drum facilitator for the Public Urban Ritual Experiment (PURE), helping bring community drumming experiences to public spaces.
As a performer, I've co-founded Thee Flammable Babylon Percussion Ensemble and have had the opportunity to perform with artists and groups including Chasing Jonah, Tangent, Red Shift Mantra, The Manteis Project, Mr. Richard, Leo Aether, Ka Malinalli, Liz Nash, and many others.
While I'm grateful for the experiences and mentors I've had along the way, I still consider myself a student first. Every rhythm carries a story, every tradition has something to teach, and there is always more to learn.
My classes emphasize authentic world rhythms, solid technique, listening, creativity, and—most importantly—the joy of making music together. Whether you're picking up a drum for the first time or looking to expand your musical vocabulary, you'll find a welcoming community where learning is hands-on, encouraging, and rooted in respect for the cultures from which these rhythms come.
I believe rhythm is one of humanity's oldest languages. My goal isn't simply to teach patterns—it's to help people discover the connection, confidence, and community that emerge when we make music together.3 attendees
