Kennebec River Rail Trail (Hallowell-Chelsea Leg)
Details
This paved trail leads from Hallowell to Chelsea and Farmingdale and ends in Gardiner; we'll start in the charming heart of downtown Hallowell (a 15-20 minute walk) before we reach the trailhead -- starting at mile marker 2.75 -- and walk a bit before we return (no loops).
For a view of the route, please see this map and the photos I've provided. As we walk alongside an old rail bed, there will be some inclines along the way; once we pass the downtown and head deeper into the wooded areas, the walk becomes more serene.
Where We'll Meet: In the Granite City parking lot in Hallowell (off of Front St.), apparently the closest public parking lot. So, set your GPS, if you use one, for that location. The lots near the trailhead are marked private (for a business and an apartment complex).
If we're up for lunch afterward, we can stop at a local eatery.
