Free and open to all, one of the state's largest museums, Colby features classic and modern art by Mainers and those from away.

The exhibits showcase a variety of styles through the ages, including some art that reflects historic events.

Throughout this stroll, among other artists, you'll see works by Winslow Homer and Alex Katz (a spacious cornerstone of the collection). The Museum is currently hosting exhibits of works by painter Gertrude Abercrombie and drawings by Laylah Ali (not related to the famous boxer, Muhammad).

Unless otherwise stated, photography without flash for personal use is allowed.

Lunch is an option afterward. Despite their website's claim about their cafe being closed in January, as pictured, it was open last Sat., selling yogurt, chips, snacks, and beverages.

Where we'll meet: At the entrance near the Roberts Union Parking Lot -- set your GPS for the Roberts Lot (not 5600 Mayflower Hill Dr. or the default). If you're coming in from "the hill," take a right, then take a left past the traffic circle. If you're coming from Mayflower Hill Drive, the road to the lot is opposite Alumni Dr.

Park near the entrance with the red "Art This Way" signs. The entrance from the Bixler Art and Music Center leads to a lobby, then to the museum entrance and the museum's second floor. This is the closest public parking lot.
