Details
Revised April 21, 2021
DID YOU REMEMBER:
• bug spray
• gloves
• UPDATE: I have plenty of pick up grabbers for this one. I think I have about 7 extra
a pick-up stick if you have one
Please park on the ELDON LOOP ( dog park on the west side of the park)
I worked under the Camp Chase Trail bridge today (picture). I do not expect our meetups to have much large item removal, but I do it in my spare time. Above is one of the (3) carts that came out of the river today. I invited my neighbor to check this area out, today he stopped by and got a bike out of the river, too!
But please don't be intimidated that this is a cleanup event. This is a fun activity in which I have no plans of relentless trash pick up. I live about a mile or two away, but I'd like to go anywhere convenient for members. Hiking along at a good pace with pickup sticks, and no looking back (or worrying about missing stuff) is more fitting. Hiking and marking big removal jobs on a map to come back is another activity we could do.
I'm working on a Landscaper sponsorship. We could use that kind of help!
There is wonderful stone structures, and a very long rugged riverside trail. I will have extra pick up sticks, and trash bags. We could break into smaller groups. It's an amazing place, and I'd love to hear what people think we should do. Be ready to take some pictures. We can pull invasive plants. I can even teach a quick lecture on crayfishing success (probably not many takers on that). There's a dog park, and camp chase trail is miles of paved trail overlooking it all.
Our first meetup spot is located near the edge of the dog park with riverside small trails winding around everywhere. Camp Chase Trail is a paved walking and biking trail, and that specific leg of the trail has an occasional Homeless person with a shopping cart go by, but it does not appear as if anyone is living in this area. I've been scouting it for a couple of weeks.
I am not affiliated with the community park or other groups. A little envious of the houses that are on the trail edge of the park. They must get animal visitors regularly. I live in this west side area, and the Holton park area offers lots of secluded time with lots of birds and nature right in the city. Please follow Covid guidelines, I'm sure a lot of us are vaccinated by now. I'm going to pull some larger trash items out, but it has a good combination of nature access for everyone as well as deeper nature hiking and long trail rides from this exact spot. Bring gloves and bug spray, but you must have the camera phone or camera... Holton park is a treasure once you hike into it.
