Monthly Field Shoot - Goodguys Car Show

Details
They descend upon Columbus once a year, and the weekend of July 11th through July 13th is the magic dates to track this year. No, it's not some invasion of insects; it's the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association 27th Summit Racing Nationals presented by PPG. Yep, you've seen them around town over the years, and they take over the Ohio Expo Center in force. Some of the coolest custom cars and hot rods you have ever laid eyes on.
The Ohio Expo Center is literally a car enthusiast's playground for the entire weekend, with major car displays and dozens and dozens of products being displayed by vendors from around the country, if not the world.
From a photographer's point of view, this is like shooting fish in a barrel. I do have to ask, does anybody really shoot fish in a barrel? At any rate, if you want to work with patterns, colors, line, shapes, form, and on and on, this is the time and place to do it. This is a great place to work on your composition skills and really engage with all those Elements of Design that are so critical to your composition skills.
We will meet at the appointed location (see the meeting location contained here in the event details) at 7:45. I will wait there until 8:00 at which time we will enter the event. There is a fee to go to the show. Check out this link here for ticketing and pricing info:
Ticketing and Pricing here...
I have nothing to do with entrance into the event; you must make those arrangements on your own!
Once we have entered the show, right inside the entrance gate, I will hold a brief introduction session to discuss the show, share some ideas for shooting, and provide a general orientation for attendees. Once I have completed that, I will work my way through the show, shooting along the way. You will find that the vast majority of exhibitors are more than happy to have their pride and joys photographed (I am referring to their cars). If you catch an email here or there, you can send images to car owners, and they will be thrilled.
I will not be providing blow-by-blow descriptions of the shots I am taking, though I will be happy to screen share my results as I am going along. I will happily provide people with technical assistance if they ask. I will also happily provide BRIEF thoughts on composition on scenes as they make themselves apparent, but I do want to keep this brief and really more one-on-one. I have two purposes in doing this, one I want YOU to be thinking about how YOU should frame up the shot, and two I don't really want to be herding a group through the show ending up being our own show.
I would recommend the following lenses:
24-70mm f/28 (or something similar)
70-200mm f/2.8 (or something similar)
Macro (or something similar)
Generally speaking close, closer, and closest tends to lead to compelling images. Symmetry and pattern work really well at this show, and last but not least color theory is really important to these car owners and should be to you too...
Also think about intentional camera movement, zoom techniques, etc. to come up with some more artistic and abstract results.

See you there!
NOTE: Though I have tried to pin the location map with a degree of accuracy, it can be hard to interpret. We will be meeting outside the main entrance gate on Seventeeth Ave. Keep an out for messages morning of the event for updates as sometimes specific events change the way the entrance works!
