About us
The Central Ontario Humanists Association (COHA) would like to welcome you to participate in our community. We extend our invitation to all Humanists, atheists, agnostics, non-theists, skeptics, freethinkers and other Humanist friendly people to join in our on-going discussion of engaging ideas and controversial topics and to share in our exploration of life and our community.
Started 15 years ago, COHA is a group for non-religious people who believe in the majesty of the universe, who are in awe of life itself and who believe that it is incumbent on ourselves to live just and ethical lives. Our group believes that there is no topic or opinion too taboo to talk about.
We have social events through the year as well as regularly monthly meetings where we discuss interesting topics and try to raise the awareness of non-believers and expose others to new ideas.

Humanists Donating Blood
Canadian Blood Services, 231 Bayview Dr, Barrie, Ontario L4N 4Y5, Barrie, ON, CAWe will be heading to the Barrie blood donor clinic on Saturday, July 25th. Donors and people coming to give moral support are welcome. The more the merrier. Afterwards, we will have lunch at Cheer's Bar & Grill, across the street. It has been many years since we have last done a blood drive.
Feel free to ask questions you may have.
Giving blood can save up to 3 lives. It is often used for major surgeries, other medical procedures, cancer treatments and more. It also speeds up recovery time. A person living with thalassemia could need blood every two to five weeks, and a person living with leukemia may need blood from up to 8 donors every week.
The need for blood had been stable for years. But in 2024, the need for blood donations has gone up.So we are doing a blood donor drive. Humanist Canada announced it's an official "Partner for Life" with Canadian Blood Services! When signing up select Humanist Canada as the partner organization.
If you aren't sure you want to donate, come and support us so you can see what it's like. If you know you are ineligible to donate, consider "bringing your one" - bring a relative or friend who is eligible. They can be part pf the Humanist Canada team as well. And join us for lunch after.
Step 1: Create an account or sign on if you have one
To be on the Humanist Canada team, you must create an account before booking. The page linked above will let you create an account on the web, or if you scroll down links you to the Android and iPhone apps.
Downloading the app is convenient because you can get your donor card on your phone (after your first donation) and you can complete the pre-donation questionnaire ahead of time which will give you a QR code to scan when you register at the clinic.Step 2: Join the Humanist Canada Team
When you sign in after clicking the confirmation email, or if you already have an account, select 'Partners' on the menu on the website or bottom right hand corner on the home page in the app (see pics below), and join an existing team. Type 'Humanist' and select Humanist Canada.
Step 3: Book!
Click 'view team' from the partners page after you join or from the left side menu. Scroll toward the bottom and click 'book' under the 'Team appointments' section (see pics below). We have reserved 6 appointments on July 25 starting at 11:00 am. If these fill up, we will reserve more! Book soon, because we will have to release any unfilled appointments 7 days before the date.
Note, do not select "Book" from the Home page. You must navigate to "Partners" , then select Humanist Canada and you will see our reserved booking date.
And then lunch at Cheer's Bar & Grill, across the street.
