The Cost of Religion in Canada
Details
On June 10 we welcome Leslie Rosenblood, board member and secular chair of the Centre for Inquiry Canada (CFIC) and host of the Podcast for Inquiry, to our regular venue at Murdoch Travel, to speak about a groundbreaking study carried out by CFIC that puts numbers to the Cost of Religion in Canada.
Leslie will discuss the many ways Canada still tangibly privileges religion and its institutions over similar non-theistic organizations. Just a few policy choices cost Canadians billions - yes, with a "b" - each and every year. You can learn more by reading CFIC's Cost of Religion in Canada reports or watching the recent Podcast for Inquiry conversation with CFIC's Executive Director, Sandra Dunham: Why does Canada give $5.6 Billion annually to religious charities?
Leslie's presentation on June 10 will be at our usual venue, Murdoch Travel, 28 Currie St., Unit 5 at 7:00 p.m. We will have our regular pre-meeting dinner at St. Louis Bar and Grill, 353 Duckworth St. At 5:00 p.m.
Also: if you have not already done so, please take a moment to complete our survey - whether you are a member of COHA or not; we want to hear from all humanists (or humanist adjacents) in the Barrie/Simcoe area. Click here to complete the survey.
Try before you buy: first 3 meetings are free. All Humanists, atheist, agnostics and any friendly people are welcome out. We also have a pre-meeting dinner (see separate event).
Every month we have interesting meetings discussing science, logic and compassion. Check out our website at http://www.cohumanists.ca/ to see our topic list and upcoming meetings.
