Let's be honest, we have all seen a comment on Stack Overflow that has seemed rude. If you're not convinced just search "stack overflow rude".

But why are they? Stack overflow is an amazingly useful tool and the fact that random members of the internet will take large amounts of time to answer 1000s of questions with in depth answers is still amazing. However, as always with the internet, a small minority of people can ruin it for everyone else!

At this month's meetup we will be looking at analysing Stack Overflow comments and seeing if we can answer why some people are rude! We will be covering lots of material, which will involve very brief introductions into BigQuery, generalised linear models (GLMs), classification and regression trees (CARTs) and sentiment analysis.

It is also the last meetup I (OJ) will be organising for a while :( So i've decided to go out with a bang and this meetup is somewhat of a greatest hits album of some of our past meetups.

Meetup structure:
1845 - Intro & Lightning talk on how to collect and navigate data sources
1900 - Hands on coding
Some time after that - Pizza and drinks!

Learning outcomes:
We aim to get everyone up to speed with a range of data science methods as well as more generalist tools for turning an interesting question into a full blown data science project!

Requirements:

  • your own laptop (+ charger)
  • Beginner level python
