THINGS THAT YOU CAN GO TO OR NOT

1. Caffeine Corridor, Friday May 10th at 7:00 pm at 9 the Gallery (1229 W. Grand Ave.) featuring Joy Young and Richard Bledsoe! Joy's really awesome.
2. The Party! Saturday, May 11th at 7:00 pm at Richard's House (4211 E. Highlands Dr.)! Alcohol of various strengths, fermentation methods and varieties! People of various origins, backgrounds, perspectives! Couches! Standing! Good music!
3. Infuse Open Mic, Sunday May 12th from 5:30 to 9:00 pm at the Phoenix Center for Arts (1202 N. 3rd St.)! Big theater! Big crowd! Incredible diversity!
4. The Uptown PEN, Tuesday, May 14th from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Practical Art (5070 N. Central Ave.) featuring Shawnte Orion (who in certain lights kinda looks like David Foster Wallace, who is extremely entertaining, engaging, has awesome cadence, and is sure to delight). Also, hosted by me! Also, free wine!

FUN + COMMUNITY

Again, (a) not only are these things really fun to go to and (b) will get you out of the house (we all need to get out of the house sometimes, if only to go back in), (c) not only does hearing and reading with other local writers and poets give you a strong sense of identification, ownership, even pride with your sprawling, infrastructurally-challenged city (we're trying, we're working on it), but (d) going out to these events is a fun and easy way to directly support your (literary) community (of which you are a joyous member/part). Also: snacks. Also: meeting or at least being in the same place as other people, being in the same place as somebody being the prerequisite to meeting them, (nothing starts a conversation like, 'hey, haven't we been in the same place together several times?'). Also, if you haven't already, join our group on Facebook! We're at 62 right now. When we get to a hundred I'll stop asking people for a week and then I'll start again! As an incentive, whoever joins the group can commission a poem from me on a topic/object/subject of their choice (preferably something nice and concrete)! It might take a while but I'm not kidding! It'll help me write! Also I do profiles! Again, seriously not kidding, I will actually do it!

Also, if I/we haven't said this enough: this is your group, and if there are things you want to do, send us an e-mail so we can help you do them (start new/different kinds of groups, having parties or other activities, starting projects, promoting events or work, etc etc). Like we've got this e-mail list, we've got the facebook, we have a huge amount of very talented and knowledgeable people, and by golly you should take advantage of it. Like I don't have to be the only person sending out silly e-mails (and you are too kind for reading them).
