A;Walk ( Harder ) Bamford Edge & Bretton Clough
Walk starts at Ladybower finishes at Eyam
Distance 11.75 miles
Ascent 2700 ft
Leader Ronnie Wade
The walk starts by the dam at Ladybower Reservoir and follows a path leading up through the woods to break out onto the moor .We then follow the path up to the site of a hut circle and from there follow along the edge to Bamford Edge .This is an overhang of gritstone rocks with good views over almost all of the Hope Valley .The route now drops down to Bamford village taking in Bamford Clough on the way down .
The route now takes us across the river towards Thornhill & we then follow the Derwent Valley Heritage Way for about 1.5 miles until we break off to then take the path leading to Offerton Hall .This was a manor house of which part originates from the medieval times but the bulk is from 1658.
Offerton Moor is now crossed to Abney and thence to Bretton Clough . .Bretton Clough is a sheltered valley of woodland and open Bracken-covered slopes ,a green oasis sandwiched between the harsh dark upland of Abney Moor and Eyam Moor . A clough is local term for a small ,steep-sided valley ,typically found in the gritstone moors of the Dark Peak .
Eyam Moor is then crossed and its now downhill to Eyam our finish point.
