How to Talk About Addiction: Breaking Status Quo with Tara Hurster

Details

Equip yourself with the tools and knowledge from this interactive session to give voice to the complex, emotionally charged and somewhat daunting issue of addiction and social norms in Australia, their interaction and mental health challenges.

Attempting to talk about binge drinking, drugs, and medicating culture can feel overwhelming. How do you bring mental health, addictions and unquestionable social norms up in a way that sparks a change in attitude and behaviour?

This conversation will help us define addiction expanding our understanding of types of addictions, obvious and hidden; learn tools how to communicate your social norms' questioning and addiction concerns, interests and questions in ways to impact our personal lives and the world navigating criticism, uncertainty and status quo.

The conversation will take place online on Saturday, 10 October, between 9:30am and 12pm. You will receive the online event link the day before the event commences.

About Tara Hurster:

Tara Hurster is a psychologist and the founder of The TARA Clinic, where TARA is an acronym for Therapeutic Addiction Recovery Assistance.

She supports busy and successful people to regain control over substance use and addiction while leaving the guilt and shame behind. Tara's interest in the space of addiction began early in her career and over the years she has realised that addiction truly doesn't discriminate.

After helping thousands of people to work through their experience of substance use she has focussed her sights now on disrupting the way we view addiction through reducing the negative stigma.

Today, 40.3 million people live in slavery globally, 71% of which are female (women and girls).

I support Antardristi Nepal organisation, which rescues victims of sexual abuse, brings them to a safe house and helps them heal - physically and mentally.

The children at their safe house receive 4 meals a day, education, ongoing medical treatment, counseling to deal with their horrific trauma and different kinds of activities - and above all, experience safety, friendship and self-worth.

This is my battle against violence against women and girls. I want to help end slavery and sexual abuse around the world and I dedicate my time to studying the problem and possible solutions, while providing finance required to maintain a safe house for the victims of sexual abuse in Nepal.

My small contribution multiplies with the voices of millions of small businesses and individuals who are fighting to end slavery and sexual abuse of women and girls.

I support Antardristi Nepal not for profit, allocating a % of my income to their causes. They are seeking support in securing USD800/monthly for a safe house rent, which hosts up to 35 children. This is tramendeously smaller than a two-bedroom flat in a metropolitan Australian city.

Together, we can reinstate basic human rights for our children and help them heal from rape and sexual molestation.
