A fireside chat with Julianne Mahler on retiring from a 32-year career as a geologist to becoming a paper artist and entrepreneur.

--
Join us for a fireside conversation with Julianne Mahler, who retired after 32 years as a geologist at ExxonMobil and is now writing her next chapter as a paper artist and entrepreneur, turning origami and folded books into a business of her own.

In 2019, while still working, Julianne set out to fold 1,000 origami cranes as a form of meditation. Today, that project has evolved into a full creative life in retirement. Her art now includes crane pieces made from upcycled paper like dictionary pages and used tea bags, along with folded and cut book sculptures she designs herself from secondhand books.

In this fireside conversation, Julianne will share what it was like to step away from a long career, how she’s rediscovered who she is beyond it, and what she’s learned about trial and error and making room for what feeds you, while balancing it with the pull of volunteering and caregiving. If you’re wondering what comes after a long career, come be inspired by what’s possible and take away ideas for your own next chapter. We’ll have plenty of time for your questions.

Please note: This is a camera-on discussion — please join by video with your camera on for the session.
