Our next book club pick is a 2006 Hugo Award winning Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge. This book is a sci-fi thriller set in a futuristic San Diego in 2025. This story follows Robert Gu, a recovering Alzheimer’s patient who finds himself in a future surrounded by technology that he struggles to use. While trying to learn, he becomes enmeshed in a conspiracy to dominate the world. Additionally, he learns that the University of California SD plans to completely eliminate all books and he feels obligated to join the protests. This story has themes of security and surveillance in a digital world. Can’t wait to see you there!
