What we’re about
"I chose the road less travelled… Now I don’t know where I am."
"Never follow someone else's path unless you're in the woods and you're lost, and you see a path. By all means, you should follow that." - Ellen Degeneres
"Bring a compass. It's awkward when you have to eat your friends." - Unknown
So maybe we caught your interest?
Quick note then I’ll tell you what we’re about. We’ve never gotten lost or had to look at members as a food source. This is Chattanooga Outdoor Adventures not the Donner Party (some of you will get that).
We enjoys the outdoors in all forms. Events like Hiking, Rafting, Kayaking, and everything else.
But wait there’s more! I sound like a Ginsu knife commercial. Let’s not let any of the Donners have one of those.
We also plan other great activities in and around Chattanooga. Not just hiking. Musical events, food and wine festivals. A concert in a cave, you get the idea
It’s an open group and would love to get everyone involved and plan a lot of different things. Inclusion and fun are key.
Not just hiking, Adventures of all kinds

A too Hot to hike Summer series event
To be clear the train boards at 9:00 AM CENTRAL TIME. Meetup is flaky about this stuff. Carpools can be created, but please take the time difference in to account. You can do this people.
"The journey is part of the experience - an expression of the seriousness of one's intent. One doesn't take the A train to Mecca."-Anthony Bourdain
The journey matters. How you approach getting there matters as much as getting there. It tells me a lot about you too. I like the carpools. Fill the time with talk and socializing. You might learn something. You might get to know someone better. The experience and interaction enriches you.
This trip is doing the Journey in style.
If you've met me you'll understand why the title of the Alfred Hitchcock movie Strangers on a train confuses me. Strangers? Never met one! We're locked up in a metal tube together. I am going to get to know you.
The point of this particular trip isn't the destination, though it does sound nice too. The point is the journey by train. How cool is that? There will be a wine tasting on the train from DelMonaco Winery (Caution, the link I provided at one point in the video shows a couple getting married. Viewer discretion is advised. Why do they include troubling footage about commitment? Poor guy. They're shown wandering around the grape vines. Looks like something out of the horror movie Children of the Corn. note to self new horror movie idea, Groom of the Vines)
Anyways, I've been there. The train used to go to the Winery. It's nice. It is fun. That was a long time ago.
The train isn't going to DelMonaco Winery though so we can all breathe a sigh of relief. It is stopping at Watertown, TN. They have shops and food places and snackage. After the layover we get back on the train. Then we ride back to Nashvegas.
This sells out folks. That is why I am posting this now.

This is the most fun you can have on a train. Well, if you've seen the movie Risky Business the second most fun you can have on a train.
Closer to time we can look at some carpools. We can make the journey to the Journey fun if we carpool.
I am enjoying my Journey through life. Might have to do all of that figure out what I am going to be when I grow up and how I can retire, but it's been fun so far.

"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he is not the same man." Heraclitus
The Greek PreSocratic philosopher Heraclitus stood at the edge of a river and came up with something profound about the constant changes of man and the world around him. Truly a deep thought that stands the test of time.
But we're not in Greece anymore Toto!
Many a Redneck Philosopher has come up with their own profound sayings.
Some of them probably standing on the banks of a river rapids and then reflectively saying "Hold my beer..." And a deep thoughtful saying was born that day.
I do know when I hit the water for this event I'll be Happy as a hog in mud.
We're in Tennessee and the deep South has no shortage of deep Philosophical prose.
There are some very profound thinkers in the South
Like the unacknowledged Authors of these gems:
She’s so contrary she floats up-stream.
So dry the catfish are carrying canteens
Don’t get your panties in a wad
He could start a fight in an empty house
He’s so country he thinks a seven-course meal is a possum and a six-pack
She’s got some snap in her garters
Give me the bacon without the sizzleThere are so many more. Obviously history will look back at the deep South as a Greek like renaissance of philosophical thinking.
Well, probably not.
I'm trying to be nice.
We're not actually going to cross the river so no one is asking you to change. Unless of course you want to get out of wet clothes. Then yes, change, but use the changing rooms they provide. Nobody wants to see you as Nekkid as a Jaybird. I guess the change in Heraclitus saying is of a different context for change. The River? We're going to tube down it on a tube not crossing it. Did the Greeks ever think of doing that? No of course not! Tubes are plastic and that wasn't invented until 1907.
I am willing to bet the Rednecks of the South invented it and I love them for that and I love doing it.
So reserve your Tube here.

When you pay in the notes write: Chattanooga Outdoor Adventures Meetup group
When they ask for the group name Chattanooga Outdoor AdventuresSeriously folks you know how to do this.
Right?
Pack some snacks, hydration, water shoes, sunscreen. Whatever you feel you need to float down the river and enjoy the day. Probably going to stop once or twice along the way.
Then because I like the Social aspect of eating together. We eat because you'll be so hungry you could gnaw bark off a pine tree. Don't worry I found a place for us to eat with a meal that will stick to your ribs like good memories
It is the
Rocky Bottom CafeThe owners must be from my home town because they have on their menu Grilled Italian Sausage with grilled onions and peppers. One of the Specials they ran also included Salt Potatoes. They have other stuff too. Burgers and dogs style fair.
Since the guy is from the North like me I will close with a phrase I heard from a friend this past weekend that I had not heard in years. He is from the same area in Central New York.
You want to do this because it is going to be a "Wicked Pissah"...
I just realized the Southern Redneck might be more articulate than I and my Yankee brethren. We can be every bit as philosophical. It just has a well, more colorful aspect.
- Riverfront Nights-Who's Bad-Michael Jackson Tribute bandBurger Republic, Chattanooga, TN
A too Hot to Hike Summers series event.
I am going to be dropping five events in rapid succession so this is a quick copy, paste, slightly modify, write up.
Riverfront nights are fantastic! Let's meet, eat beforehand and dance like fools to Music. This years line up is great.
The format is the same for every one of them. Eat beforehand and listen to music. I am going to keep the dining options pretty basic for convenience and cost.
Be sure to bring a blanket or chair to sit on and anything else you may desire. It's outside and fun!
Tonight is Who's Bad-Michael Jackson Tribute band
