Christmas at Waffle House and a Movie

Yes I super imposed Santa smoking a blunt in front of a Waffle House. This event is on Christmas Day. His work is done and I get the vision of him standing out front of the Waffle House smoking a blunt and relaxing with the employees who are on break too. Ya know, the regular Waffle House employee who stubs out their Pall Mall and goes inside when you pull up with your crew. I like the aforementioned Anthony Bourdain have a twisted sense of humor.

I used to have to have all of the boxes checked for Christmas Day. As a single parent raising two girls on my own. All the presents wrapped, and all the Holiday dinner makings in the fridge for the big day. Life changes and people move in and out of your life. It is after all life and that is what it is.

Traditions change with the changes in your life. My kids are grown. I share my youngest and the Holidays with her in laws and my son in law. We swap out holidays. This year they have Christmas. I get Thanksgiving.

A couple of years back I thought I would on a whim share the Christmas Day my oldest daughter and I had planned. It was simply a trip to the Waffle House and to see a movie and I seriously believed no one would join us when I posted it.

We had a crowd. I was so glad to have others to share the day with and a meal at the only place besides the Chinese Restaurants open on Christmas Day.

Christmas is in part about bringing everyone together. Sharing the day and each others company. I'd like to do that with you.

Christopher McCandless wrote "Happiness is only real when it is shared." It was something he wrote in the margins of the book Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak He scrawled it in the margins of the book after he had already embarked on his journey later realizing the importance of the shared experiences. The quote reflects his late realization that an unshared life is not a genuine one, a sentiment he came to understand too late.

I have my kids and you guys to share things with. I like doing that.

At various times in my life I have had a scant few to large crowds to share the holiday with. It is a part of the ebbs and flows of life.

I want to offer the opportunity to anyone who is in town and may want some company on Christmas Day to join me for the simplest of meals and days.

Waffle House #123

Its a classy gourmet place. Minus of course the class and gourmet. It is however accessible to everyone and loved by all walks of life. Though he made his name with the fancy French Restaurant Brasserie Les Halles in New York City, Bourdain had a deep love for the Waffle House as well.

A mile or so away is the Movie Theater. This part is subject to change, but close by is

They are releasing Song Sung Blue on December 25th. It is about a couple who perform a Neil Diamond Tribute band. It is based on a true story. As of right now this is the movie I am leaning towards, but more details will follow closer to time. Somewhat Romcom, somewhat tear jerker.

Waffles and a movie with friends. After I will probably go home and watch It's a Wonderful Life. In fact that reminds me of a quote from the movie Christopher McCandless should have listened to the Angel Clarence tells George Bailey in the movie “Remember, no man is a failure who has friends.”

By others measure I am maybe not as successful as others, but I am happy and I have friends. I hope some of those friends will join me. If not? I will have a great Christmas with my daughter.
