The Brunch Club A Short walk to River street Deli & a walk back
Details
So the picture is from When Harry Met Sally. Not sure the sandwich is that good, but it is pretty good. Is there a sandwich anywhere that good?
Don't Kvetch. The Walnut Street bridge is still closed so we will use the other one on this walk. We will walk our Tuches over to the River Street Deli. These sandwiches are no Shlock. I walked into the place and became verklempt. I had missed the Jewish Delis of New York. They are amazing for this Goyim.
Since we are getting close to the end of the Yiddish words I know and can use and still be nice and PG in the write up I will behave, Not going to be a putz. Growing up in an area where every kids family was from somewhere else mostly European there were lots of different accents, cultures and languages. We taught each other the uh, well, more colorful words of the different languages of our family's origin. I have the satisfaction of knowing there are two French guys I grew up with who can cuss you out quite competently in German. I did that. You're welcome America. I am only second generation, but you give back to your country.
Also learned the phrase "sei molto bella" to extend friendly relations to a visiting foreign exchange student from Italy. I am a diplomat.
Is this a great country or what?
I will use two more words that Bruce Weiss the River street Deli owner says you need to have a business. He has said you need chutzpah and saykhel. He must have it because the place is usually packed. He also has some amazing sandwiches. The place takes me back to the wonderful restaurant where I grew up. It's legit.
The plan is a short walk before to eat at the Deli and a short walk back. I am using Willi's usual meeting space. Walk across Veterans Bridge through Coolidge park

We had plenty of colorful sayings from the different cultures. Many with lots of wisdom behind them. One of the favorites from a friend was
"If my grandmother had balls, she would be my grandfather" In other words speculation on impossible situations is silly.
There were more. Always was a little uncomfortable when his grandmother was actually around, but anyways...
"Man Plans, god laughs."
You can plan, but destiny always wins. No destiny is not a stripper. Actual Destiny. Maybe I should have used fate?
"Better an honest slap in the face than an insincere kiss,"
Honesty is better than flattery. I may take issue with this one. Who is delivering the insincere kiss? You may actually be okay with it.
"He who can't endure bad, will not live to see the good."
In other words you have to take the bad with the good. I have known this a lot in my life.
"If you're rich, you're handsome and you're smart and you can sing well too."
Money changes peoples perception of you. Act poor. You find out what people are really made of. Trust me on this one.
Mostly enjoy the day in front of you, and the Pastrami on Rye with a homemade soup. Enjoy those too. My own pearl of wisdom there. I'm a mensch!
