Moonless Dispersed Camping with a 360° View: Cherokee National Forest

Stargazing and camping all in one night! There's a New Moon on October 10th! Let's take advantage of the last chance for a warm, moonless (very dark) night to camp on a mountain top.
This location is far from city lights. Lay in the grass and see the milky way or join in around the campfire. Those with DSLRs/Mirrorless cameras and a wide angle lens may try their hand at astrophotography.
What is Dispersed Camping?
Dispersed camping is camping outside of designated, developed campgrounds — usually for free on public land like national forests and BLM areas. There are no amenities. Bring everything you need and pack everything out.
Road access is via a gravel Forest Service road. It's passable with a sedan, but I recommend something with more clearance. 2WD is fine.
