# Chess IRL at Central Machine Works
Free Sunday chess in East Austin · 2:00–6:00 PM · Drop in anytime · All skill levels welcome
Come sip, relax, and play some chess with us every Sunday at Central Machine Works Brewery.
Chess IRL is a community-driven meetup built around real chess, real people, and real pieces. We’re a casual, friendly group where complete beginners, returning players, casual competitors, and experienced tournament players can meet and enjoy face-to-face chess.
Come alone or bring a friend. There is usually someone ready for a game, and no formal pairing or tournament experience is required.
## When We Meet
Our official meetup window is every Sunday from 2:00–6:00 PM.
This is a relaxed, drop-in gathering rather than a structured tournament. 2:00 PM is a soft start, and people flow in and out throughout the afternoon. Arrive whenever it works for you, play as many or as few games as you like, and leave whenever you need to.
Games often continue after 6:00 PM—and occasionally as late as 9:00 PM—depending on turnout, energy, and available space. After-6:00 play is informal and not guaranteed.
## What to Expect
We typically have 10–30 players with a wide range of experience.
You can expect:
- Casual, friendly over-the-board games
- Players of many different skill levels
- A welcoming environment for beginners and newcomers
- Plenty of opportunities for stronger and more competitive games
The online RSVP count rarely reflects the full turnout. Even when the list looks small, we consistently have a solid group show up, so don’t hesitate to join us.
## Location
Central Machine Works Brewery
4824 E. Cesar Chavez Street
Austin, Texas
### Parking
Parking is usually easiest through the back gate on E. 5th Street, between Springdale Road and Spencer Lane. Look for signs directing you to Central Machine Works.
### How to Find Us
We typically meet inside at the tables near the front doors at the E. Cesar Chavez Street entrance. Look for several chessboards set up across the tables—the group is usually easy to spot.
Central Machine Works can become extremely crowded on busy Sundays, so our exact location occasionally changes. When the usual tables are unavailable, we find whatever space is open elsewhere inside or outside in the beer garden. If you don’t see us near the front entrance, walk through the indoor seating areas and patio and look for the chessboards.
