What we’re about
Chester Humanists is an independent community of local people from Chester and surrounding areas who share a positive humanist outlook on life. We offer a range of social opportunities, community services and opportunities for like-minded folk to interact in different ways.
We enjoy social meetups and also arrange talks, courses and community events. Our community shares information too relating to events that may be of interest and so supports other relevant groupings.
We love discussing aspects of life and offer a safe space in which to talk and share experiences - supporting each other to live rich fulfilling lives.
There are always opportunities for you to get involved too so if you have ideas you want to explore and share, if you want to help organise an event or take part in some community action you may find people who'd like to help here.
Humanists recognise that we are all connected - to each other and to the beautiful natural world of which we are part. We look to evidence, science, reason and experience to understand life. We hope to enjoy life and help others do so as well. We also look for ways to improve lives and enhance the quality of experiences for each of us in the one life we know we have.
Believing in diversity we strongly support human rights and the rights of everyone to live as they wish so long as they are not harming anyone else or preventing others living how they would wish.

Open to everyone - please join us for a morning of stimulating literature and conversation. This informal and friendly group meets to listen to an extract, short story or poem which is read aloud. Frequent pauses in the reading give us the opportunity to chat about what we've imagined/thought of/felt as we've listened. Tea, coffee and other beverages available at The Kitchen in Storyhouse..
Stories will be read aloud and the text will be available. No one else need read aloud unless they so wish. It's an enjoyable way to meet people and explore some great writing.
The sessions are currently exploring The Dubliners by James Joyce
“Literature can be a form of ‘doing philosophy.’ It’s a form of ethical exploration, partly by seeing things through very different points of view and insights.”

To keep numbers manageable spaces are limited so please register – there are only a limit. If the list is full please add your name to the waiting list and if anyone does have to drop out you may get a slot.
The event is free though a donation may be requested.
