About us
How do you combine the thrill of debate with the kinds of truth-seeking and intellectual exploration that leads to lasting friendships?
We've been experimenting with debate game rules that can serve as a repeatable method for fostering fulfilling discussions that leave everyone wiser. Bonus points if you can guess the double meaning of the game we're calling "Take my Point"! Include your guess in your request to join. :)
Long Term Vision
For now, this is just a fun set of experiments, but one day we imagine the game could be used in higher-stakes situations like presidential debates, where candidates would win based on their ability to understand, satisfy, and rejoin the opposition's deepest concerns.
Location
We meet in a residential lobby in Streeterville, Chicago next to the lake (RSVP to see the address). If there are few people, we play the game in the lobby (max 4 attendees). For larger numbers of attendees, we wait a few minutes before stepping outside to take walks along the lake.
Topics
August 22: Predict one ordinary behavior that people will consider unethical 100 years from now. Defend your prediction.
September 9: Debate your most unpopular view. Could you convince someone to take it seriously?
September 30: Which of your current beliefs are you most likely to abandon within the next 10 years?
October 21: Which current scientific consensus is most likely to be overturned during your lifetime?
November 11: What idea that sounds absurd today will eventually become common sense?
These are just conversation starters for our ongoing experiments in truth-seeking. If attendees bring other ideas, we'll decide together what to discuss.
