Volunteers are needed to help setup and support one of the best picnics in Chicago. We will host a picnic for 800+ community members and refugees./!from around the world.

Our exact location is at the intersection of Foster Ave and East of Lake Shore Drive, North of the two soccer fields. Limited free parking if you show up early before 8 am. Paid parking lot will also get fill up fast by noon time.
Volunteer activities will include setting up and breakdown for tables, chairs, tents, serving food and drinks, supervise kids activities, stage support for the performers, help manage and support the soccer matches.
Volunteer shift time is flexible, you can come and leave anytime you like. We start at 7:00 a.m., but most activities will be from 9:00 a.m. to about 3:00 p.m. most volunteers will stay for 4 to 6 hours. It is easier to find free parking if you arrive before 8:00 a.m. on Simmonds drive. Event site is also accessible by bike, Divvy, CTA red line and bus routes. Bring a chair or blanket so you can sit down and enjoy the talented performances by the refugees.
Dress code: it will be a hot day in the 90s by mid day, so dress comfortably to stay cool.
How to find us: Take Foster Ave East to the lake front until it ends and it will turn to Simmond Drive. we are right by the curve. Look for all the white tables and stage trailer.

Since 2002, World Refugee Day Chicago (WRD) has commemorated World Refugee Day by organizing events, workshops, conferences, lunches, street parades, downtown rallies, guest speakers, as well as diverse multicultural performances by members of the Chicago refugee community. WRD Chicago is organized by staff, volunteers, and refugee advocates and supporters from various organizations focused on welcoming and serving refugees.
