Our Indigenous friends at the American Indian Center will be hosting their annual gala at the Newberry Library in the Gold Coast.

It is an amazing event using story telling as a healing art. Volunteers will be helping a native chef prepare and plate indigenous food. We will also have time to sit down and share a meal and enjoy some of the gala activities.

"Held at the historic Newberry Library, the night will feature a seated dinner, silent auction, raffles, and our annual Community Engagement Awards. But more than that, it will be a celebration of story as medicine—how Native communities use art, voice, and truth-telling to heal and thrive.

This year, we’ll share work from our Unstoppable Voices project: a series of workshops in photography, videography, podcasting, oral storytelling, and writing that empowers Native community members to tell their own stories in their own ways. You’ll hear directly from some of the participants and experience their work through a pop-up art gallery show in the library lobby during the gala."
