Dear Chicago PUG members! Our May meetup is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21.
The meetup will start with a short presentation by Michael Lennon from Lumere "Tables as Queues in Postgres", showcasing some cool things Chicago-based PostgreSQL developers are doing.
For the second presentation we are delighted to welcome back one of our favorite speakers, Shaun Thomas from 2ndQuadrant! He will present a talk: "From Zero to Hero: 10 Ways to Learn and Master Postgres"
In his own words:
Postgres, like everything else, has a learning curve. If you're a
developer or just don't know much about databases in general, it may
seem impossibly daunting to even approach the topic, let alone master
it. So let's try a different tactic. Imagine you don't know anything
about Postgres, but have to interact with it on a regular basis, or you
got a new job and are expected to be the new Postgres DBA. Well, that
was me back in 2001 and again in 2005. Now I'm a Postgres consultant and
literally wrote the book on Postgres in High Availability environments,
and even I'm confused at how that happened. How did I go from being a
PHP developer to a Postgres Blackbelt? Well, I can share a few tips.
(You won't believe number 7; other Postgres experts will hate me for
sharing it!) This, and other clickbait, brought to you by the next
Chicago PUG meeting. Don't miss out!
As always, doors will be opened at 5:30 with pizza arriving at approximately the same time, and the presentation will start promptly at 6 PM. We have the space till 8 PM, so there will be plenty of time for questions and networking.
Hope to see you there!
