PostgreSQL Meetup

Details
Dear Chicago PUG members,
Our next meetup is scheduled for July 19 at 5-30 PM at DRW office 540 W. Madison, 25 floor, in the conference room behind reception.
A couple of reminders:
-This is a high-security building, which means the names of all participants should be communicated no later than 8 AM on the day of the event, and all participants must present a government-issued id to be admitted. Registration for all in-person events will be closed by 7-30 AM the day of the event.
- The food order will be placed two days before the event, so I strongly encourage everybody planning to attend to RSVP by July 17.
-If you plan to attend virtually, please wait for a separate invite.
Please RSVP here only if you are attending in person. To attend virtually, please RSVP here.
On July 19, Chicago PUG welcomes back one of our favorite speakers and Chicago PUG veteran Shaun Thomas!
Talk title: HA Architectures in PostgreSQL
About the speaker:
Shaun has spent the last 20 years covering a gamut of roles from DBA, database architect, developer, consultant, conference speaker, author, and many more besides. These days he focuses his efforts on Postgres High Availability, as most of his conference talks, webinars, and user group presentations will attest. His PostgreSQL High Availability Cookbook currently acts as the only book on the topic, hard-won from experience managing a critical financial trading platform. He’s also the designer of HARP, EDBs new High Availability offering.
Talk Description:
For anyone who wants to build a highly available Postgres cluster, server count and layout are infinitely variable, as are node management strategies. EDB has decided to conceptually simplify this by distilling Postgres HA to a core of six standard architectures driven by use case requirements. Rather than a talk, we'd like to have a group discussion on how and why we chose these designs, and gather feedback on whether they might apply to your real world needs. We'll even draw parallels with HA themes from other database vendors so everyone's on the same page.
NEW! We are bringing back "15 Minutes with Jerry Sievers." Got a question? We have an expert to answer! Please post your questions in the comments to this meetup announcement.
Also, the floor will be open to 5-min Lighting Talks; feel free to share cool things you are doing with Postgres!
Agenda:
- Hettie, DRW: Updates on upcoming PostgreSQL events
- Shaun Thomas: HA in PostgreSQL
- 15 Minutes with Jerry: please submit your questions!
- Lighting talks
- Q&A and networking
The doors will open at 5-30, with food arriving at the same time, and the talks will start promptly at 6 PM.
Please be on time! You might not be able to get in on the 25th floor after 6!
As usual, I hope to see as many of you as possible in person!
Hettie Dombrovskaya,
Chicago PUG Local Organizer
