What we’re about
Join us for regular face-to-face meetups about the R Statistical Programming language! We strive to learn from each other and collaborate to accomplish common goals. For slides and code related to past talks, please checkout our Github page.
To continue the conversation online, join the CRUG Slack channel!
About R
Often referred to as the language of statistics or the lingua franca of data science, R is the statistical programming language that data experts the world over use for everything from mapping broad social and marketing trends online to developing financial and climate models that help drive our economies and communities. The R Community Code of Conduct
Open: Members of the community are open to collaboration, whether it's on projects, working groups, packages, problems, or otherwise. We're receptive to constructive comment and criticism, as the experiences and skill sets of other members contribute to the whole of our efforts. We're accepting of anyone who wishes to take part in our activities, fostering an environment where all can participate and everyone can make a difference.
Considerate: Members of the community are considerate of their peers — other R users. We're thoughtful when addressing the efforts of others, keeping in mind that oftentimes the labor was completed simply for the good of the community. We're attentive in our communications, whether in person or online, and we're tactful when approaching differing views.
Respectful: Members of the community are respectful. We're respectful of others, their positions, their skills, their commitments, and their efforts. We're respectful of the volunteer efforts that permeate the R community. We're respectful of the processes set forth in the community, and we work within them. When we disagree, we are courteous in raising our issues.
Overall, we're good to each other. We contribute to this community not because we have to, but because we want to. If we remember that, these guidelines will come naturally.

See all- AI Vibe, Canvas, and Prompt Coding WorkshopNeeds location
Welcome back useRs! Come learn and gain experience in our AI coding workshop using R and open-source with fun data analytics projects involving: Gold vs Bitcoin, R vs Python, Cubs vs White Sox!
With provided datasets and free pizza and drinks, huddle with fellow Chicagoans to build various analytical solutions (cleaning, aggregating, modeling, visualization, application, reporting) with popular AI tools and styles including:
- Vibe coding: Use command line tools or IDE extensions to run agent-based LLMs to generate and edit code with natural language instructions
- Canvas coding: Use web LLM user interfaces for an interactive coding window to generate and edit code with natural language instructions
- Prompt coding: Use web LLM chat message threads to craft specific natural language instructions to generate, optimize, or debug code
Event will support hybrid participation.
Final participant presentations of AI-assisted coding solutions are encouraged with potential prizes!
Preparation
In advance of meetup, please see this AI Coding | GitLab project page to prepare beforehand for effective participation including handling subscriptions, installations, and familiarity with your AI vendor of choice.
