June Meetup-Janet Thomas on Shark Tagging and More!

Details

We are now able to bring Janet Thomas in this month after having to cancel her talk in January due to weather. We will be back at the Atlantic this month! She will be talking about some of our favorite topics: sharks, turtles and conservation!

Janet Thomas has been volunteering with groups such as Fins Attached Marine Research and Conservation and the Sea Turtles Restoration Network for years now and has been documenting shark and turtle tagging for research and conservation purposes. Currently, she has been concentrating on Cocos Island, Galapagos and Malpelo. She uses much of her videos to present to Chicago schools to get kids excited about the water. She will discuss her tagging with some exciting footage, and will also show other videos as well.

Janet Thomas is a Master Scuba Diver and also holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Ocean conservation has become a critical passion for her. She has a Bachelors of Science degree from Andrews University, but diverted away from her medical school plans to purchase the 3rd Coast Cafe in the Gold Coast, which she has owned for the last 26 years. She is also a member of the Chicago Police Foundation Auxiliary.
