Hello All! We will be meeting early in March to accommodate our speaker and venue.

We are bringing back one of our favorite speakers, Lynn Funkhouser. Lynn is a wonderful photographer who gives fascinating presentations on her dive travels. She specializes in the Philippines, but she might surprise us with other places as well.

Lynn Funkhouser is an internationally published photographer, environmentalist, author, lecturer, adventuress and leader in dive travel.

Lynn’s diving career began in the air not water. Working as a TWA flight attendant allowed her to travel, dive, and photograph the world which made her an asset to join and photograph various environmental causes around the world. As a founder of the International Marinelife Alliance (1986) Lynn first went undercover to photograph and document fishermen using blast fishing and cyanide to capture fish, while living alone in a hut on the island with them.

Lynn began diving in 1967. In 1975 the Philippines became her gold standard and she has returned to dive there 2-3 months yearly until covid. After diving the world & 264 islands in the Philippines, she was thrilled when scientists declared the Verde Island Passage “the Center of the Center of Marine Biodiversity” confirming her observations.

She has received numerous honors and awards including but not limited to inaugural member of the Women Divers Hall of Fame (WDHOF) 2000, a NOGI for Environment from the Academy of U/W Arts and Sciences (AUAS) in 2023 in New Orleans, and the Gold Medal from the Society of Women Geographers (SWG) at their Centennial in Washington, DC, in 2025. (Only 32 women have received this award so extremely humbled to be with Dr. Jane Goodall, Dr. Sylvia Earle, Dr. Eugenie Clark, Dr. Kathryn Sullivan, and Amelia Earhart to name a few.)

Lynn is committed to making a difference on this planet through her images and lectures.
