What we’re about
This meetup group is for hikers of all experience levels who are looking to see new places and try new things. This provides a chance for people to make new friends through a shared love for the outdoors.
Most hikes will be around the Chicago and Suburban area and occasionally Wisconsin.
There is no charge for any hike and no donations with few exceptions. Exceptions include entrance to State parks in WI, overnight campground fees, overnight lodging and shared transportation when people carpool. The meetup event will detail such costs in advance.
Hikes range from 3 to 12 miles and pace of 3mph or a little under. All ages welcome!
Hikes in this group will be cross posted in other hiking groups and noted within the event.
Group History
This meetup group was originally known as The NW Burbs Camping.
It was established back in July 2007! Previous organizers have held hundreds of fun social events and you can view past events on the calendar. The group was renamed at some point and had several different organizers over time.
Prior to July 5th, 2023 this meetup group had a broader scope which included camping, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, snow shoeing, campfires, and other activities.
The name was changed to The Great Lakes Outdoor Adventure Meetup.
I'm changing the name again because I do not expect a heavy focus on other states at this time.
