New Members Afternoon: Monk Bridge Viaduct Garden

New and returning members - come along to meet other new members who want to network with people like you!

Did you know Leeds has a mini green space on top of a disused railway viaduct? This unique spot looks like it could be in the middle of a park at first glance, except you're raised up two storeys above the waterways underneath. Expect some nice views and a relaxed setting for some coffee and a chat.

There is a coffee stand up on the viaduct, however you're encouraged to bring picnic drinks and snacks, or just a hot drink from whichever outlet you prefer. I'd also recommend bringing a blanket to sit on the grass.

How to get here

The venue is slightly tucked away so it's best to familiarise yourself with how to get to the venue before you set off. I do not recommend using the Meetup app to navigate since it can be innacurate. Starting at the rail station, these directions will get you there:

1. Walk down Aire Street / Whitehall Road (this is the road the supplies the small car park / Uber pick up spot behind the station)
2. At the end of the row of large buildings, but before the road becomes a bridge, turn to the right into a parking area (if you are on a bridge it means you've gone too far)
3. If you look across the car park you'll see a set of stairs and a small lift tower, this is how to get up to the viaduct
4. Go down the small ramp in the middle of the car park then work your way up the lift or stairs - you've arrived!

New Member FAQ

Is it OK to come alone or should I bring someone?

It's absolutely fine to come by yourself. This is the case 99% of the time for new members, so there's no need to worry, many other attendees will be in the same boat as you.

Will I fit in?

The only thing that's the consistent about our members is how different they all are! We welcome people from all over the world and from all walks of life. We have many members who are in the LGBT+ community or neurodiverse. As long as you're your kind, friendly self you'll fit right in.

Do I need join the group to attend?

Yes, you must apply to join the group, be approved and RSVP to this event first. Please note, it can sometimes take a few days for your application to be processed, so its best to apply early. If you're still waiting to hear back on the day of the event, apologies but you won't be able to attend this one. Please don't turn up to the event whilst your request is still pending, on Meetup this is considered very intrusive and could lead to a site wide ban, you should only attend if your name is in the Attendees list.
