For our first ever online Saturday Assembly event we've got a double bill with two speakers: Dr Ben is joining from the USA via remote video plus our very own group member Aman will be returning for his second talk.

Important: This event will take place online via our Discord server. Grab a drink, put out some snacks and enjoy the talks from the comfort of your own home! Discord is a chat and messaging app and the gold standard for online communities. You'll need to install Discord on your phone or laptop and join our Discord server. You'll be provided with the link to join our Discord server on the day, however feel free to join any time before then. We are not planning to record the session, you'll need to join this way to watch the talks, plus by viewing live you'll be able to take part in the Q&As and group discussion.

Session 1: Dr Ben - Sex & Gender

Dr Ben is a medical doctor, army veteran and science communicator bridging the gap between clinical expertise and social advocacy. As well as practicing medicine he creates content on TikTok/YouTube, however you may know him from his work hosting various call in shows and viral clips on the topic of being transgender.

Dr Ben will be presenting a talk about sex and gender from a scientific and medical perspective.

Session 2: Aman - The Manosphere

Aman is a longstanding member of Chilled Out Meetups and returning speaker. Last time he gave an excellent introduction to his faith, Sikhism. This time he'll be presenting a talk about The Manosphere.

Both talks will be followed by a Q&A session then at the end attendees will be invited to stay for an open group discussion.

Important Info

Both the subjects being covered are really important to talk about however we're also aware these are emotive topics. However you feel about what is discussed, any inappropriate behaviour will absolutely affect your standing with the group and therefore could preclude you from attending other events. Contributions to the Q&A/discussion should be in good faith and not taken as a chance to grandstand. Members should be aware Saturday Assembly has naturally taken on a liberal/progressive atmosphere and consider their attendance if this something that will be uncomfortable for them.

About Saturday Assembly

These events are intended to be a place to share our thoughts and experiences so we can endeavour to have the best life possible whilst being kind to others.

This particular speaker has their own perspective however we encourage everyone to attend even if your perspective might be different.

Have something to say? We need members like you!

We need volunteer members to give a talk at this event and at future events.
Some topics could be (but are not limited to):
• Confidence and self esteem
• Dealing with mental health struggles
• Navigating relationships with your friends and family
• Dealing with negative emotions like stress and grief
• Balancing life with working and studying

The talk could include lessons from your own experiences, your studies, your culture and religion (keeping in mind of course the audience will be multi-faith). I absolutely encourage anyone with little or no public speaking to join in. The talks could be 100% scripted or entirely 'from the heart'. Pre-made audio and video recordings would be allowed as long as they were prepared by you, specifically for this.

In return you'd get a free drink or snack (depending on the venue), co-host credit for the event and public speaking experience for your work or study pursuits.

We have a more detailed speakers guide (work in progress) which you can view by clicking here. If you would like to speak, please send Kris a message with your idea for a talk.
