Walk, Museum & Coffee (Leeds Industrial Museum: Untangled)
Details
We're heading back to Leeds Industrial Museum! If you were at this event last year, there's lots of new things to see. If you did not attend, this attraction was very much enjoyed by everyone and I really think you'll like it too!
New Exhibitions
Engineery - Celebrating 300 years since John Smeaton, the father of civil engineering.
Ludd in the Machine - What connects the rise of modern AI to the early 19th century? Both of these eras ushered in monumental changes in the job market. Explore 200 years of industrialisation from the perspective of a worker.
Untangled - Taking place in the reopened outdoor area, this exhibition is all about felt.
Also, weather permitting, take a stroll around the recently renovated outdoor area and maybe chill in the new picnic area.
We'll meet in the city centre then take a leisurely walk along the canal to Leeds Industrial Museum. We've arranged a special entry price just for Chilled Out Meetup members. Lets learn about the past from this epicentre of the industrial revolution. Then, we'll meet in the museum canteen for hot drinks and a chat.
Approximate schedule:
12:45 - Meet at City Square (under the horse statue)
13:00 - Walk along the canal
14:00 - Museum visit
15:30 - Hot drinks
Leeds Industrial Museum is a paid for attraction. You can pay on the day at a reduced rate of £5.80 if you say you're with Chilled Out Meetups. There is an extra-reduced rate of just £1.00 if you're a local resident in the LS3, LS4, LS5, LS12 postcodes (bring proof of address) or free entry for certain card holders, you can see the details by clicking here and scrolling down to Admissions.

Can I join the group at the museum instead?
Yes that's fine, please be at the museum for 14:00. If you just want to come for coffee, feel free to arrive later however I believe you will still need to pay for entry (all funds go to supporting the museum).
Getting here (City Centre)
City Square is right next to the train station and near to all bus connections heading in and out of Leeds. If arriving by car, there are plenty of spaces in the various multi-storey car parks nearby, but keep in mind it usually costs £2/3 per hour.
Getting here (Museum)
The 14 service stops closest to the museum, or alternatively very frequent services run from Kirkstall Road a short walk away. I recommend using Google Maps or Moovit to find bus times and stop locations. The nearest train station is Burley Park which is around a 20 minute walk away.
The museum car park is currently been renovated so spaces are limited. There are more spaces at the adjacent Farnell UK car park, postcode LS12 2TU. Alternatively park at Cardigan Fields which is about a 5 minute walk away and has ample free spaces.
If coming from Kirkstall Road/Cardigan Fields you will need to cross the pedestrian bridge at the end of Milford Place, behind the Climbing Lab and Autopfect buildings. The bridge at the back of Cardigan Fields is NOT operational, and you need to go around the back of cinema to access this pedestrian bridge, it's not accessible directly from the Cardigan Fields car park.
Walk information
The walk is around 2 miles and shouldn't take longer than 45 minutes. The ground is paved almost all the way there so hiking gear is NOT required, however there may be some uneven ground and steps.
Bad weather
If heavy rain is forecast this event WILL go ahead but we will meet at museum instead. If light rain is forecast the walk will go ahead anyway, just bring weatherproofs. Please check back here for updates. If you have concerns about weather conditions message the host directly rather than posting about it in the comments/chat.
