March Meeting: Fermentation for Experimentation
Details
• What we'll do
Let's talk about some of the most ancient bio-technologies by discussing fermentation. How can we determine what organisms are growing in the foods we make and eat? Our organizers are in the kitchen all month making homemade sauerkraut, kimchi, ginger beer, and yogurt with the intention of discovering what organisms we've just cultured. We're going to be making some homemade bacterial agar plates, and seeing what will grow from our foods, then discussing what we see and make. Come join us for some great conversations on how we can use fermentation to engineer new products or functions, and potentially try some great homemade snacks.
• What to bring
Bring yourself, some friends, and an appetite for knowledge on biotechnology (And potentially various fermented food)
• Important to know
Our good friends at Empirical are hosting us, and will offer some drink specials to members (Age 21+) for the night.
