Experiences with Spark 1.4 and R

Details

Summer may be winding down, but Apache Spark is still going strong. Spark version 1.4 was released in mid-June and included a number of major new features including 'R' integration. Join us again on the 19th to share Spark experiences, make new contacts, and learn about Spark and 'R'. Once again, IlluminationWorks has graciously offered to host our meeting and provide pizza and drinks.

Agenda:

6:00 - 6:30 - Social Hour - Pizza and Drinks

6:30 - 7:30 - Corrine Schlachter and Eugene Pyatigorsky from local tech startup, Ahalogy will be presenting on their experience with Spark and its 'R' integration.

7:30 - 8:00 - Open discussion: people's experience with the Edx's Spark course, things we've encountered, other things in the latest release, etc.

Hope to see you on the 19th.

Speaker Bios:

Corinne is a Data Scientist at a Cincy internet tech startup, Ahalogy. She uses machine learning and other analytical methods to build new data driven product features and to help the company make informed, data-backed strategic decisions. As Ahalogy grows, Spark has emerged as the most promising way for our data scientists to work with the growing data. Corinne studied Applied Mathematics and Statistics at UC Berkeley and has been using R since college.

Eugene works at Ahalogy — a local internet tech startup focusing on Pinterest — where he uses data to help with marketing, client management, and product development. He’s a strong advocate of R, having used the platform on and off for 10 years. Eugene studied Applied Math at UC Berkeley for undergrad and Quantitative Marketing in the MBA Program at the Wharton School.
