About us

Circle of Friends is a fun, welcoming social group for women and men in their 50s and up who enjoy good company and shared interests. We bring people together for dancing, live music, social outings, and relaxed get-togethers in a friendly, inclusive environment.

Our leadership team uses experience and AI-assisted tools to thoughtfully evaluate events, focusing on activities that are enjoyable and worth your time. When planning, we also consider proximity to venues through an optional, anonymous map where members may share their general location if they choose. This helps us select better locations while always respecting privacy. Member feedback matters to us, and we strive to feature talented artists in great settings and foster a strong sense of community.

Many of our members join Meetup to meet new people and build lasting friendships, and we’re happy to connect and collaborate with similar Meetup groups.
One small but important request: if you plan to attend a Circle of Friends event, please sign up on our page. Recently, we almost canceled an event due to lack of interest  when in fact fifteen people actually attended. Signing up helps us plan effectively, choose the right venues, and gather helpful feedback before and after events.

If you’re looking for a warm, active group with thoughtfully chosen events and people who enjoy being part of the experience, you’ll feel right at home. Let’s get out, have fun, and make some great memories together!

Behavior Policy

1. Value Statement
Circle of Friends is committed to creating a welcoming, respectful, and safe environment for all participants. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. Everyone who takes part in our activities—members, guests, and organizers—shares responsibility for maintaining a space where people feel safe, comfortable and included.

***

2. What Counts as Harassment
Harassment includes any unwelcome behavior—sexual, verbal, physical, or nonverbal—that makes someone feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or pressured.
Examples include:

  • Unwanted touching or physical contact
  • Inappropriate jokes, comments, or gestures
  • Sharing or displaying sexual images
  • Any romantic or sexual advances after being told no
  • Behavior that pressures someone into any unwanted activity

If someone says a behavior is unwelcome, the behavior must stop immediately!

***

3. How to Raise a Concern
Concerns can be raised in whichever way feels most comfortable to the harassee.
You may:

  • Speak directly to the person whose behavior is concerning, if you feel safe doing so
  • Communicate to the group host or any co-organizer
  • Share your concern privately with the group host through the group’s MeetUp chat communication channel, text, telephone call, or email

All concerns will be taken seriously. Anyone receiving a report of harassment will handle it with respect and discretion.

***

4. How Concerns Are Handled
When a concern is raised:

  • The person receiving the report will listen, gather basic information, and ensure the harassee feels supported
  • At least two members of the leadership team will discuss the situation and decide on appropriate next steps
  • The person whose behavior is in question will be asked to respond to the report
  • In cases of extreme harassment, the person whose behavior is in question may be immediately expelled from the group.

Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern is grounds for expulsion from the group.

***

5. Possible Actions
If harassment is confirmed—or if behavior is clearly inappropriate even without a formal investigation—the leadership team of Circle of Friends may take one or more of the following actions:

  • A verbal reminder of group expectations and policies
  • A request to stop specific behaviors
  • A temporary suspension from group activities
  • Removal from the group
