Our event is now at-capacity! If you are interested still, please sign up for the wait list. Being on the wait list will give you a chance at a spot, and make future events more likely.

Join us in partnership with Spellbound Games for CCL Chicago's first-ever board game (free!) event with our new favorite game of the year: Daybreak. Daybreak is a cooperative board game about stopping climate change. It presents a hopeful vision of the near future, where you get to build the mind-blowing technologies and resilient societies we need to save the planet.

This event is one part social, one part educational, one part raffle, and three parts fun! We have 7 copies of Daybreak we're going to crack open and play during the event, supporting up to 35 players (5 players per game). Each table will have a game expert to help teach the game and help you explore climate solutions. No previous experience required!

More About Daybreak
Daybreak is a co-operative game about climate action. Each player controls a world power, deploying policies and technologies to both dismantle the engine of global heating and to build resilient societies that protect people from life-threatening crises.

If the global temperature gets too high, or if too many people from any world power are in crisis, everyone loses. But if you work together to draw down global emissions to net-zero, you all win!

Preparing for the Event

  • Donations are encouraged, but not required. We want as many people to enjoy the event as possible.
  • BYOB (no hard liquor) is allowed!
  • The only food at the event will be what people bring - potluck style! Feel free to share in the food others bring, and/or bring some yourself. Being a climate organization, many attendees will be vegetarian or vegan, so keep that in you mind if you are planning on partaking. Appetizer-style food and beverages welcome.
  • You can watch this short video that overviews how to play. This is not required.

Schedule

  • 6 PM — Doors open! Meet new friends and join an ongoing party game while we wait for everyone to arrive.
  • 6:30 PM — Opening event speech, statement of purpose, explanation of rules, and general event structure; players choose and sit at tables. Each table has at least one player who has played the game before, acting as a country or UN Advisor.
  • 6:45 PM — Let the games begin!
  • Late joiners and joiners above capacity are added as UN Advisors. A UN Advisor may make suggestions and advocate for cooperation between countries, but can take no direct actions themselves.
  • Everyone is on the same round timer, and each round ends on the same schedule, so all teams are working on the same time period. Attendees whose games end early discuss what they’ve learned, may explore the science behind their favorite cards, or may switch to party games.
  • Between 8 PM and 8:30 PM — Games finish up, and we have an open conversation about what we’ve learned and select raffle winners.
  • After: Cleanup and hangout
