Climate Gaming: Daybreak at First Aid Comics in Hyde Park
Details
Join us in partnership with First Aid Comics for a reprise of CCL Chicago's highly successful gaming event series with one of our favorite games: Daybreak. Daybreak is a cooperative board game about stopping climate change. It presents a hopeful vision of the near future, where you get to build the mind-blowing technologies and resilient societies we need to save the planet.
This event is one part social, one part educational, and three parts fun! We have 4 copies of Daybreak we're going to crack open and play during the event, supporting up to 16 players (5 players per game). Each table will have a game expert to help teach the game and help you explore climate solutions. No previous experience required!
More About Daybreak
Daybreak is a co-operative game about climate action. Each player controls a world power, deploying policies and technologies to both dismantle the engine of global heating and to build resilient societies that protect people from life-threatening crises.
If the global temperature gets too high, or if too many people from any world power are in crisis, everyone loses. But if you work together to draw down global emissions to net-zero, you all win!
Preparing for the Event
- Donations are encouraged, but not required. We want as many people to enjoy the event as possible.
- You can watch this short video that overviews how to play. This is not required.
Schedule
- 1:30 PM — Doors open! Meet new friends and join an ongoing party game while we wait for everyone to arrive.
- 2:00 PM — Opening event speech, statement of purpose, explanation of rules, and general event structure; players choose and sit at tables. Each table has at least one player who has played the game before, acting as a country or UN Advisor.
- 2:15 PM — Let the games begin!
- Late joiners and joiners above capacity are added as UN Advisors. A UN Advisor may make suggestions and advocate for cooperation between countries, but can take no direct actions themselves.
- At the end of the event, we'll talk about each group's experience playing the game, and how you won (or think you can win!)
