About us
City Walks Houston is a walking group that offers members an up close view of the city with 6-7 mile hikes exploring the parks, neighborhoods, and bayous around us. In addition to hikes, City Walks Houston arranges occasional tours of the parts of our community that you never see from behind the steering wheel. City Walks Houston is for active people who want to see more of this place and meet others so inclined.

City Walk Memorial Park and Houston Arboretum, 7.0 miles
Washington Avenue Coalition / Memorial Park, Houston, TX, USOur walk today takes us through Memorial Park, built on the site of Camp Logan, a training camp for the US Army during WWI, with a turn through the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. A busy park, we can expect to see dozens of dogs and potentially hundreds of joggers. With the Memorial Drive land bridge/tunnel project now completed we can easily cross Memorial Drive and see the park from the level of the treetops. We finish with a walk through the Eastern Glades part of the park. And a nice cool down afterwards at Beck's to watch the sun set. What a great way to end the weekend!
Parking: Several of the lots are not free but there is much free parking along the loop. Memorial Park parking Come early and give yourself time to park.
Wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. The heat in Texas is always a concern so let someone know if you are having a hard time. Light-colored and loose fitting clothing are recommended. For more information about hiking check out this very useful hiking website: https://www.hatsandmore.org/
Our organizers are not guides nor do we have any special training. We are here to come up with hiking ideas and get the hike started. Take the same precautions you would if hiking alone, including the fitness needed to make long hikes. Then enjoy the hike among friends.

City Walk Summer Solstice, 6.1 miles
McGovern Centennial Gardens, 1500 Hermann Dr, Houston, TX, USA lazy afternoon on the longest day of the year. Listen for the cicadas as the last day of spring gives way to summer, This walk is considerably unspecified but could be a unique experience because of the sheer lack of people out in the middle of a busy part of the city. Come on out, we will have a nice outing one way or another.
Twilight Epiphany is an installation by James Turrell, "the veteran wizard of installations that involve illusory effects of light, both natural and artificial."(New Yorker). Though currently closed because of construction, we will just have to see what we can see.
Many meetup events have visited here and if you have seen it before, there is never a better time to see it again than now. If you haven't then it will be a special treat of abstraction. Because we are a walking group, we may also find that the experience of the walk through the natural and constructed environments of Hermann Park and Rice University will provide an interesting lead in to the abstraction of Twilight Epiphany.
Afterward at the Bodega near Hermann Park.

City Walk Houston Summer Splash Time , 6.0 miles
1500 Hermann Dr, Houston, TX, USLet's try this one again.... Last year the water was turned off at most of the places we went. This early summer walk starts late at 5:00 pm, and takes us from one cool spot to the next. Bring raincoats, swimsuits, umbrellas and your waterproof hiking boots and get as wet as you want. From the walk-able fountains at the Obelisk to the run-able ones at the Glassell School and on to the Ervan Chew neighborhood park for a splash and back, we should never be too far away from a cool splash. If we see an ice cream truck, I am definitely getting one. After the walk we meet at Bodega's.
This is the walk to bring your squirt guns, water blasters, and bubble makers, to have a great time but don't forget the schoolyard rule: No Faces!!!
