About us

City Walks Houston is a walking group that offers members an up close view of the city with 6-7 mile hikes exploring the parks, neighborhoods, and bayous around us. In addition to hikes, City Walks Houston arranges occasional tours of the parts of our community that you never see from behind the steering wheel. City Walks Houston is for active people who want to see more of this place and meet others so inclined.

Parking will be tight, consider carpooling with friends, There is parking at the Kroger on Gray st. nearby with a shuttle.....

Today's walk takes us through the River Oaks neighborhood to see the springtime blooming of the azaleas that do so well all along the Gulf coast.

Our organizers are not guides nor do we have any special training. We are here to come up with hiking ideas and get the hike started. Take the same precautions you would if hiking alone, including the fitness needed to make long hikes. Then enjoy the hike among friends.

Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, 5216 Montrose Blvd., Houston, TX, US
Hints of ancient Rome surround us in Houston. From the triumphal arch beneath Sam Houston's statue in Hermann Park to classical nudes in the Cullen Sculpture Garden, the classical art and architecture adopted by the revolutionary founders of this country appear in public buildings, monuments, and homes across the city. On our way via Main street we will see courthouses, banks, old homes, and the great arched bridge over the bayou at Allen's Landing. Be sure to invite friends, Romans, and countrymen on this walk. Join us petty men as we walk beneath the huge legacy of the builders of our city. If you are lean and hungry afterwards enjoy pizza with friends at Fia's. (Little Caesar's was just too far)

As a bonus, free bottle of water for any bad Shakespeare or Latin puns. Come on out and enjoy the weather with new friends and old.

Heights Pottery Walk ~3.4 Miles

In a change from the typical City Walk, we will do an artsy activity. Joining the Heights Pottery Walk to visits five pottery studios in the Heights. Each studio will have demonstrations and craft discussions throughout the day. As well as items for sale.

Brunch at Onion Creek
Join us for brunch at Onion Creek around 11AM. It will likely be busy so be sure to get there early enough to park, order and eat before the walk.

The Walk:
We will leave Onion Creek around noon and walk to Nosami Studio. If you are running late for the start, meet us there.

Since there are demonstrations and browsing the crafts. City Walkers will undoubtedly have different interests so we won't be able to keep a group together the whole time. Feel free to linger or move on at your leisure. If you want to follow along, look for Tom or Alan to lead to the next studio.

After walk gathering:
We will reconvene at Onion Creek to have a bite and show off any purchases and brainstorm future walks. So bring your best ideas.
